From Sepang to Buriram and finally Losail, Qatar, 24 of the MotoGP drivers have spent nine important test days ahead of the new season.
Taking place at the start of the season in Qatar, the MotoGP test was unlikely to face any hardship in terms of weather because of the lack of rain and sunshine at the beginning of March. The first day, after three days of struggling in Thailand, Maverick Vinales and Yamaha returned to the lead, temporarily leaving dissatisfaction with the M1 again. However, this is a very tight day with all the top 17 being within 1 second (s = second) than the 25th.
Vinales scored 1 minute 55,053s in the 50th round of the 64 rounds, only quicker than second-placed runner-up Andrea Dovizioso 0.051s. Meanwhile, Andrea Iannone followed Alex Rins' surprise from Thailand to bring him to No. 3 position, losing just 3 milliseconds to Dovizioso.
By contrast, Honda had a rather bleak day when Marc Marquez was No. 10, followed by team-mate Dani Pedrosa who slipped out twice during the day. Another Honda driver, Cal Crutchlow, stood on the pair and all three were just 0.02 seconds apart.
After that, the race on the track became more quiet as all waiting for road conditions became similar to what happened at the official race. However, almost all of them can finish over 50 laps when the race day ends. Valentino Rossi was 7th, with less than 0.4s in the teammate, with no sign of a slight improvement for Alex Rins and two for Jorge Lorenzo at 9th.
On the part of the recruits, the head is still the familiar name Takaaki Nakagami with 0.8s slower than the fastest time and Franco Morbidelli also less opponents of Japan as long as time. With Malaysian driver Hafizh Syahrin, he only came in at number 22 but just behind Morbidelli.
On the second day, a bigger surprise came when the leader was not one of the top three names, but the driver of Suzuki Andrea Iannone. Dovizioso was the one who held the # 1 spot all day, but with a final run, the 29th driver grabbed the spot and was only 0.041s quicker, 1 minute 54.586s. Rins followed the success of the racing team by the fifth place, less than the Iannone 0.381s.
Among the three names is Johann Zarco, who continues to show strength on the Yamaha chassis in 2016 and Marc Marquez. The defending champion was the focus of day 2 when he experimented with some new aerodynamic details on the car and with a light slide. The rest of Ducati and Repsol Honda did not get a good result when Pedrosa and Lorenzo won 10th and 14th respectively.
Vinales has dropped six places compared to the first day when he was still on the road to find solutions to the problems encountered. Rossi's problems with the front tire made him only 11th in the race. Pramac Racing, they have maintained their performance since the test in Malaysia so far, with Danilo Petrucci and Jack Miller. in turn ranked 8th and 9th, between them just over 0.05s.
At the bottom, Nakagami, Morbidelli and Syahrin are still the top three finishers, but the Nakagami is still a bit taller than the rest, and Syahrin shows his daily progress, despite his distance. Teams are far away. Alvaro Bautista was No. 20, but had the highest number of rounds with 70, while only two had 61 laps, with the remaining 60s.
